Many Yogolicious® toppings contain ANTIOXIDANTS.

Antioxidants are important disease-fighting compounds.  Scientists believe they help prevent and repair the stress that comes from oxidation, a natural process that occurs during normal cell function.  A small percentage of cells becomes damaged during oxidation and turns into free radicals, which can start a chain reaction to harming more cells.  Free radical activity has been linked to cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease… blueberries and blackberries ranked highest among the fruits studied… peaches, mangos, and melons, while scoring lower than berries, still contain plenty of antioxidants as well as other nutrients.”1

Almonds and other nuts are packed with nutrients – fiber, riboflavin, magnesium, iron, calcium and vitamin E, a natural antioxidant.  They’re also good for your heart.  Most of the fat in almonds is monounsaturated fat, which can help lower cholesterol levels when substituted for other fats. 2

Blueberries, strawberries and raspberries are a rich, low-calorie source of fiber, antioxidants and phytonutrients.  Regular intake of berries may improve short-term memory and reduce the cellular damage associated with aging. 3  Just one cup of blueberries has about 10 times the USDA’s recommended daily consumption of antioxidants plus vitamins A & C. 4  These berries… are also high in vitamin C and folic acid.  Moreover, lutein found in all these berries, can help protect vision. 5

Many cereals contain whole grains.  Recent research suggests those who eat more whole grains are at a lower risk of diabetes and heart disease. 6

Yogolicious® Frozen Yogurt contains PROBIOTICS.

There is evidence that yogurt with active cultures may help certain gastrointestinal conditions, boost the immune system, discourage certain infections, prevent osteoporosis, and reduce risk of high blood pressure. 7

Pomegranates have long been hailed for their potential anti-cancer and heart healthy benefits thanks to their high antioxidant content.  Some studies suggest that a group of ellagitannins found in pomegranates inhibit the growth of some cancers in laboratory tests. 8 9

Chocolate, especially dark chocolate, may lower levels of stress hormones in people feeling stressed out.  Researchers found that eating the equivalent of one average-sized dark chocolate candy bar (1.4 ounces) each day for two weeks reduced levels of stress hormone cortisol as well as the “fight-or-flight” hormones in highly stressed people.  Researchers are also investigating other compounds in dark chocolate that may offer other health benefits, such as improved insulin sensitivity, reduced blood pressure, and improved mood. 10

Kiwi fruits are rich in many vitamins, flavonoids and minerals.  In particular, they contain a high amount of vitamin C.  Studies have demonstrated additional health benefits to the respiratory tract. 11
